Thoughts from the Headteacher’s office

Ex Woodcote High School student Raye is no. 3 in the BBC Sound of 2017

The BBC Music Sound of 2017 Winners’ Countdown is underway this week.

The “Sound of List” was started in 2003 with the aim of showcasing the most exciting rising stars. It has gained a reputation as a democratic survey, giving a glimpse into the future of music and predicting some of the biggest acts in the world. Previous winners have included Adele, Sam Smith, Ellie Golding, HAIM, Years & Years and Jack Garratt.

Ex Woodcote High School student Raye (Rachel Keene) has been voted third out of a long list of 15 top artists all predicted to rise to the top in 2017.  Hand-picked by a panel of music industry experts, Raye chose to return to Woodcote High to film her promotional video for the competition with a track called Shhh.

The music video was filmed in December in the Woodcote High School Hall and the visit brought back a lot of memories for Raye including singing at school concerts and at the school’s Open Evening.  Take a look at the video here:

I was delighted that Rachel chose to come back to Woodcote High to promote her video rather than another school! We all wish her a successful career in her chosen field of music.
